Mommy Makeover

Conveniently located to serve Baton Rouge

Mommy makeover is the name given to a package of surgical procedures for women who are unhappy with their appearance following pregnancy, childbirth, and breastfeeding. The aim of a mommy makeover in Baton Rouge is to help women restore their pre-pregnancy body by tightening, lifting, and tucking sagging and aging skin.

Which Procedures Can Be Performed During a Mommy Makeover?

A mommy makeover procedure can include a breast lift, breast augmentation, a tummy tuck, liposuction, and/or breast reduction. The best combination for you will be determined during your consultation with Dr. Gary Cox.

Mommy Makeover

Breast Lift

A breast lift, also called mastopexy surgery, raises sagging breasts and restores perkiness. The procedure’s goal is firmer lifted breasts that have a more youthful appearance. It can also correct breast shape asymmetry.

Mastopexy involves first creating incisions based on the amount of tissue to be removed (anchor, lollipop, or donut incisions). Excess skin is removed from the breasts, and surrounding tissues are tightened to raise the breasts. Areolae may be reduced in size and repositioned.

Breast Augmentation

Breast augmentation surgery, also called augmentation mammaplasty, increases breast size using silicone or saline breast implants. This procedure can also correct breast size asymmetry.

During breast augmentation, incisions are made (transaxillary, periareolar, or inframammary), and pockets are created in the tissues. Saline or silicone-gel-filled implants are placed inside the pockets and positioned appropriately.

Breast Reduction

Breast reduction reduces the size of breasts that are disproportionate to the body and are creating physical, emotional, and/or social issues. Chronic back, neck, and shoulder pain are common with oversized breasts.

During reduction mammaplasty, incisions similar to those of a breast lift are made. Following this, fat, glandular tissue, and/or excess skin are removed to reduce the volume of the breasts.

Tummy Tuck

A tummy tuck, or abdominoplasty, creates a flatter, tighter, and more toned abdominal region. This is especially necessary when diastasis recti are present. This condition occurs during pregnancy when the muscles in the abdominal wall loosen and become separated.

During tummy tuck surgery, a curving horizontal incision is created from hipbone to hipbone. Another incision may be created around the belly button for greater access. Next, excess fat and skin are removed, and loose abdominal muscles are tightened with internal sutures.

Liposuction

Liposuction involves the removal of excess deposits of stubborn fat from the body to provide contouring and sculpting. This spot-reduction procedure can be used in a wide variety of areas, including the thighs, abdomen, buttocks, chest, upper arms, ankles, knees, neck, and chin.

During liposuction, small incisions are made in the areas from which fat will be removed. A tool called a cannula is inserted in the area. Its sharp end is used to loosen stubborn fat cells from the surrounding tissues. Medical suction is then applied to remove the fatty tissue from the body.

How Should You Prepare for a Mommy Makeover?

Dr. Cox will give you pre-operative instructions based on your specific combination of procedures. Some common pre-surgery requirements are as follows:

  • You will be asked to get a full lab test and medical evaluation.
  • Certain medications will need to be stopped, and dosages of medications may need to be adjusted.
  • Drinking alcohol and smoking must be avoided for a time leading up to the procedure, because they can negatively affect the healing process.
  • Aspirin, anti-inflammatory drugs, and herbal supplements must be avoided for a time before the date of the procedure since they can cause complications.

Had a great experience with Dr. Cox

“Had a great experience with Dr Cox. The results exceeded our expectations. We researched a LOT before the surgery looking at before and after pics. From the first consult to after-surgery care, Dr. Cox answered all questions. Great bedside manner! I would recommend Dr. Cox to anyone remotely considering the operation. The only regret we have is not having the surgery done sooner. Truly a life-changing experience.”

What Is the Recovery Process Like?

After a mommy makeover, you will need to rest and recover for a time. This procedure is very comprehensive, so patience will be required during this period. Dr. Cox will give you specific instructions related to post-operative care, and these must be followed diligently to ensure a complication-free healing process.

Bruising and swelling will be present for a time, and pain or discomfort may be felt at various points. You may be asked to apply certain medications on your skin or take oral medications.

You may be asked to wear a post-surgical compression garment, and in cases of procedures related to the breasts, you must wear an elastic bandage or support bra. Draining tubes may have been placed to drain the areas, helping to avoid seroma and hematoma formation.

Time off from work will be required, and it will be necessary to avoid physically taxing activities for four to six weeks. Full results will be seen once all swelling decreases and breast implants (if used in your mommy makeover) have settled. Final results may take several months to be visible.
