Facelift
A facelift is a facial plastic-surgery procedure that offers a way to turn back the clock and restore the youthful beauty of your face. In many cases, the only way to properly treat the visible signs of aging is through surgery. A facelift in Baton Rouge can address the primary factors that cause the appearance of aging on the face, correcting them in a way that is natural-looking and long-lasting.
Board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Gary Cox has performed numerous facelifts and has been able to provide our patients with personalized results that satisfy their aesthetic needs. He can use his surgical skill to restore the smooth contours and attractive appearance of your face.
The Facelift Procedure
The facelift procedure is designed to rejuvenate the appearance of the face by trimming excess tissues, lifting and repositioning the skin, and tightly suturing the remaining tissues. This gives the face a more youthful appearance while retaining as natural a look as possible.
There are a variety of approaches used to perform a facelift. The exact techniques used will be discussed during your consultation and will be based on your specific needs and desired outcome. The incisions used for the procedure are strategically placed so that they are well hidden.
“Had a great experience with Dr. Cox. The results exceeded our expectations. We researched a LOT before the surgery looking at before and after pics. From the first consult to after-surgery care, Dr. Cox answered all questions. Great bedside manner! I would recommend Dr. Cox to anyone remotely considering the operation. The only regret we have is not having the surgery done sooner. Truly a life-changing experience.”
Is a Facelift Right for Me?
Individuals who are interested in getting a facelift should be in good overall health, have noticeable signs of aging that are severe enough to warrant surgery and have realistic expectations regarding what is possible through surgery. To develop realistic expectations, it is helpful to look over our facelift before and after photos in our gallery.
Dr. Cox will go over your pertinent medical history, evaluate your current health, and address any questions you may have during your initial consultation.
A facelift can be used to correct a variety of aesthetic face and neck issues. You may be a good candidate for a facelift if you have:
- Sagging skin and loose underlying facial muscles around the cheeks and jawline
- Severe wrinkling around the mouth and nose
- Noticeable jowls
- Loss of volume around the mid-face
- Folds and sagging on the neck
How Should You Prepare for a Facelift
Dr. Cox will give you pre-operative instructions based on your specific procedure. Some common pre-surgery requirements are as follows:
- You will be asked to get a full lab test and medical evaluation.
- Certain medications will need to be stopped, and dosages of medications may need to be adjusted.
- Drinking alcohol and smoking must be avoided for a time leading up to the procedure, because they can negatively affect the healing process.
- Aspirin, anti-inflammatory drugs, and herbal supplements must be avoided for a time before the date of the procedure since they can cause complications.
Recovering from a Facelift
A facelift is most often performed under local anesthesia with IV sedation or general anesthesia. It is an outpatient procedure, so you will be able to return home the same day as your surgery, though you will need to have someone drive you home. Sutures and dressings will be removed during a follow-up appointment.
Some pain, swelling, and bruising are to be expected. Medication can be provided to help make the recovery period as comfortable as possible.
It will take around two weeks before you can return to your normal activities. It is best to avoid strenuous activities such as exercising for a minimum of six weeks. If you experience anything concerning, contact Dr. Cox right away to have the issue properly examined.
